2009 Shishapangma Expedition

Day Thirty-two: Climb from Camp I to Camp II

Today, after a great night’s sleep, Mario and I headed up in a very calm, hot morning, toward Camp II. Clouds lingered on the slopes, baking the climbers as they headed up the slopes (heat reflects from the snow to the clouds and back to the snow, making conditions similar to an oven). The heat made for an exhausting day. We arrived around noon to Camp II, made water and settled in as snow started to fall and the winds increased, as forecast. The snow continued to fall all afternoon, and we were relatively certain that we would have a tough task breaking trail to Camp III tomorrow. We settled in for the evening, planning on leaving for Camp III after the sun hit the tents in the morning.
