Dispatch Thirty-four: April 26th, 2009

Day Thirty-four: Climb from Base Camp to Camp II

Today, I woke up to a calm clear morning, packed up the things I would need for my summit push, had breakfast, and got underway. Heavier than I expected, I was happy to arrive to Camp I in just over three hours. I had lunch, made some water, and continued up in what had suddenly become a snow storm to Camp II. The route had been well established thanks to the huge number of climbers who had headed up yesterday, so the way was easy to find despite the whiteout. Two hours later, I arrived to Camp II. My Korean friends had shoveled off my tent for me prior to my arrival, so I quickly took refuge from the storm in my tent, made dinner, and got some much needed sleep.
