Day Forty-Four: Preparations for Departure from Base Camp

Today we woke up at 8:00am again to a rainy base camp. After making some phone calls and having a long breakfast, we got to finalizing our porter loads for tomorrow. We deliberated for some time as to how long we wanted the trek to last and what camps to utilize. We came to the conclusion that we didn’t want to rush anything, as we all had ample time before our departing flights. We decided on four days, stopping in Goro II, Urdukas, Paiju, and Korophong, where we would only have a two hour walk to the jeeps in Askole. After this was decided, we had lunch, continued packing, Badia took another look at my burn, and we dealt with digestive issues that had developed since our descent most probably the result of the extensive pollution of the water created by the accumulation of human waste on the glacial moraine and its subsequent melt-off, aided by the rain. We had dinner, and went to bed.
