Aconcagua Climber Biographies

David is a 32 year old Emergency Physician who has been climbing for 16 years. He fell in love with the outdoors when he took a course with Colorado Outward Bound at 16 years old. This experience set in motion his career in both medicine and outdoor leadership. David went on to complete a degree in Zoology at the University of Oklahoma where he ran the OU timberline Explorers climbing club. He also attended the Wind River Mountaineering course with the National Outdoor Leadership School and was the High Adventure Director for Camp Buffalo Bill Boy Scout Camp near Yellowstone National Park during his college years. He attended Medical school at OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma then Emergency Medicine residency in Missouri and Philadelphia. During his medical training he pursued training in Wilderness Medicine and became the first American to earn the UIAA, IKAR, ISMM diploma in mountain medicine in the United Kingdoms. He is also earning his Fellowship in Wilderness Medicine with the Academy of Wilderness Medicine of the Wilderness Medical Society. Currently he is an Emergency Physician for the Locums Tenens company Vista Staffing Solutions.

Nicholas Rice was born in Hermosa Beach, California in 1985. He has been climbing for twelve years focusing mainly on alpine and rock. Nick climbed his first 8000 meter peak in 2004, Cho Oyu in Tibet, ranked 6th in the world. He knew the sport was for him when he arrived on the summit just 3 hours after leaving Camp III. Nick has been climbing in Pakistan the past two years with a 2005 expedition to Gasherbrum I and II and then a successful solo climb of Gasherbrum II in 2006. He is intending to climb Broad Peak (8051 meters) this summer and then fly over to Nepal to attempt Makalu (ranked 5th in the world; tentatively planned). More Information
